Leaders must take a holistic approach to learning by incorporating development opportunities such as networking, mentoring, stretch assignments, and problem solving.

Model of Development

One way to approach development is by utilizing the 70/20/10 model — where 70 percent of learning is through practice and on-the-job experiences; 20 percent is through other people by exposure to coaching, feedback, and networking; and, 10 percent is through formal education-based learnings.

Take a closer look at the activities that make up the 70%, the 20%, and the 10%.
