Part of your success as a new supervisor depends on your ability to carefully build and manage relationships with your peers/coworkers.

Establishing and maintaining these relationships is critical to the overall success of your team. Work with your manager or local HR to identify who you should be meeting with. During these meetings, it is important to acknowledge your peers’ role in your success and that of your team.

Build a foundation for success by asking:

  • What is your group’s primary work scope?
  • How do our groups interact?
  • How can I help facilitate a successful working relationship between our groups?
  • If I could do one thing that would make a difference in the next couple of months,
    what would it be?

Networking is an ongoing process, not a separate event. Schedule follow-up meetings with identified peers to continue building the relationship.
